Why Cacao is Better Than Cocoa (And How to Enjoy It)
If you're a fan of chocolate, you may have come across the words "cocoa" and "cacao" used interchangeably. But, these words actually refer to very different things. In this blog post, we will explore al the differences between cocoa and cacao, and also why we choose to use cacao only in our products.
The Source of Cacao & Cocoa
Cacao and cocoa both come from the same source: the cacao tree. After they the cacao pod is harvested, it can be processed to become either cacao or cocoa - and that processing is what sets these two apart. Cocoa is made by roasting cacao beans at high temperatures, which gives it that familiar chocolate flavor, but it also removes most of the natural nutrients and medicinal benefits of the raw cacao. Cacao, on the other hand, is made by cold-pressing unroasted cacao beans, which preserves a lot of benefits of the cacao. We take this one step further with our proprietary cold-crumbling process that leaves almost all of the medicinal qualities of the cacao in tact.
Benefits of Cacao over Cocoa
So, what are these benefits of cacao? For one, cacao is a rich source of antioxidants, which help your cells ward off free radicals that may cause damage. Cacao is also high in flavanoids, which has been linked to improved heart health and lower blood pressure. Plus, just one once of cacao contains 64 mg of magnesium, which is already 16% of your daily recommended intake.
